They recorded the placement of the Brass Plaque on the Stone in front of the Howell Carnegie Library. The plaque marked the placement of the Time Capsule which was buried March 9, 1977 by the Howell Bicentennial Committee.<br /><br />The man chipping away at the stone in preparation for the plaque was Dick Kline of Kline's Lettering Service, Durand, Michigan.<br /><br />The men placing the plaque were Mike Hagman, city councilman, and Fred Catrell, Executive Director of the Howell Chamber of Commerce.<br /><br /><a href="https://livingstondaily.newspapers.com/image/454111000/?terms=%22Stone%20plaque%20Library&match=1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">View the June 22, 1977 Livingston Daily Press & Argus Article</a> <strong>(in library use only).</strong>

These pictures were taken of the ceremonial planting of the Washington Elm tree by the Philip Livingston Chapter of the D.A.R. in the square of the Howell Carnegie Library, Howell, Michigan. The tree and the ceremony was in honor of the Bicentennial of the birth of George Washington. The photographs were taken by Ed Beach.<br /><br />With a tree, the D.A.R. placed a marker with the date and the insigna of the local chapter. Mrs. R. M.Tubbs was the regent of the Howell chapter. Dr. Homer Mitchell Noble, pastor First Presbyterian Church of Howell, and Rev. George Curts of the Howell Methodist Episcopal church spoke at the event, according to <a href="https://livingstondaily.newspapers.com/image/453732121/?terms=%22Washington%20Elm%22" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">an article in the Livingston Republican, dated May 4, 1932</a>.<br /><br />The names of the persons in the pictures are unknown.

An account of the resource
This is a photograph likely taken from the Presbyterian Church, of Flag Day at the Howell Carnegie Library, 314 West Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.<br /><br />As reported by David D. Finney Jr., in his "Images of America: Howell" book, 2013, Flag Day was celebrated at the Howell Carnegie Library Square. A parade from the Livingston County Courthouse was led by Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and third graders. The teachers and school children were waving flags. On the lawn, they joined local citizens and sang patriotic songs.

Description
An account of the resource
In 1915, William E. Robb founded the Citizens' Mutual Automobile Insurance Company; its first office was at 113 East Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan. In 1918, Citizens' built a new office at 304 East Grand River Avenue, Howell Michigan, and during the 1930's, the expanding business added a second floor to that office.<br /><br />Citizens' Mutual Automobile Insurance Company continued its expansion far beyond the home office quarters, and in May 1955, construction on a new building began. The new building was located at 845 West Grand River Avenue, near the intersection of West Grand River Avenue and Byron Road. The building was completed in 1956, and was 77,000 square feet, and its walls were made of Indiana limestone. <br /><br />On October 22, 1956, Citizens' Mutual Automobile Insurance Company held an open house at the new office building, and over 1000 Livingston County residents attended. These photographs, taken during the open house, include view of the interior and exterior of the building, and pictures of people attending the events. Berthold Woodhams was President of the business from 1950 to 1963. The names of the persons in the photographs are unknown.<br /><br />The former Citizens' building on East Grand River Avenue, was then rented by Livingston County and became the home to a number of county offices. In 1991, Roberta Monroe Keenan and Clare Smith McKnight published, "Citizens Insurance Company of America: A 75 Year History 1915 -1990".<br /><br />Later Citizens Insurance Company built and moved to a new building at 808 North Highlander Way, Howell, Michigan.
