The Howell Library Board met Tuesday, November 15, 1960, at 7:30PM in the library. Present were : Mr. Engelhardt, Mrs. McCloskey, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman.

Mr. Engelhardt called the meeting to order and the minutes of the October 18 meeting were read and approved.

There was some discussion of the state plan for libraries in Michigan.

The eaves drain pipe had been repaired by Mr. Warner, but the Screening of the eaves to keep out leaves seemed too expensive. There will be and estimate.

Mr. Norman had called Mrs. Hight concerning the charge made for rural cards, which, at the present is $2.00 per family or $1.00 for a student. Mr. Norman seems to think it should be $5.00 per family.

Mrs. Hight sends $350 to the city and keeps the balance for petty cash, to be used to buy small articles for the library and out of which she has also paid an extra page. It was also suggested that Mrs. Hight keep rural fines separate for one month.

There was discussion as to the advisability of making photostat copies of six important books which had been lost - history of (Michigan and) Howell. Two were of Howell, which ad been found in a farmer's tenant house. There had been four copies.

Miss Crofoot devotes free time to the library and Helen Meabon writes notices free.

More coal would be needed and ordered.

    The meeting adjourned.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Lillie Gatesman, record. secty.

There was not meeting in December

The Howell Library Board met January 17, at 7:30PM in the library. Present were: Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyon, Dr. Eaton, Mrs. Hight, Mrs. McCloskey and Mrs. Gatesman.

The minutes of the November 15, [19]60 meeting were read and approved.

The subject of the lost copies of the Crittenten History of Howell was again discussed and Mrs. Hight said she has been promised one other copy. To Photostat copies would cost from $50 to $100. It was decided that Dr. Eaton would talk with Mr. Bailey at the school, about having his pupils type the book, which would lessen the work and cost of photostating.

Mrs. Hight now gives receipts to the rural people and their charge for cards will not be increased at this time.

Mrs Hight will try to get some information concerning penal fines, when they are paid, etc, from the county treasurer.

The present janitor will be relieved of his responsibilities early in February and the problem of a new one was discussed. Mrs. Hight read and passed

for the board to read. Mr. Schwas is to be considered and to be offered $90 per month for five months and $100 later, if all works out satisfactorily.

It was suggested that it might be well if trucks were not permitted to park in front of the library or other vehicles for long periods of time, so that patrons of the library may have parking space.

Scotty will (paint) do the ceiling in the children's room. There should be estimates on the trim painting of the library. Possibly the janitor should do painting in the library, particularly the toilets.

Mr. Norman talked with Mrs. Hight and thought it well to possibly have an architect draw a new entrance for the library. This aroused considerable and lively discussion, resulting in the discussion of having some expert assistance to plan landscaping the library yard. Mr. Engelhardt said he would talk with Mr. Howard Culver, who might give this service, in the way of a civic duty.

Mrs. Hight, Mr. Engelhardt and Dr. Eaton will meet Wednesday, January 25, at 2:00PM in the library to review the budget for the coming year.

The meeting adjourned to meet again, Tuesday, February 21, at 7:30PM in the library.

(Rel) Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman, record. secty.

The Howell Library Board met Tuesday, November 17, 1959 at 7:30PM in the library. Present were: Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyon, Mrs. Hack, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman.

The minutes of the October meeting were read and after a small correction were approved.

Mr. Engelhardt reported that he had talked with Mr. Bath, the superintendent of schools and Mr. Scheiffer, principal of the High School regarding the possibility of having some of the school library books placed in our library. They visited our library but no commitments were made.

Mr. Engelhardt also reported on the trip some of us had made to the Ann Arbor Library as did Mrs. Hight on our trip to Adrian, Blissfield and Owosso.

A motion was made by Mrs. Hoch seconded by Mr. Lyon and carried unanimously, that petty cash collected from fines and rental fees, after $25.00, which must be turned over to the city, be allowed Mrs. Hight, to use at her discretion. This would make it possible for her to hire another page.

It was decided to not hold a December Board meeting and the meeting was adjourned, the next meeting to be January 19, 1960. Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman, record. secty.

The Howell Library Board met Tuesday, January 19, 1960 at 7:30PM in the library. Preset were, Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyons, Mrs. McCloskey, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman.

The minutes of the November 19, 1959 meeting were read and approved, there not having been a December meeting. The resignation of Mrs. Hach was read and accepted with regrets. Your (?) secretary was instructed to write Mrs. Hach and to tell her how she would be missed on the board because of her excellent participation. There was a brief discussion concerning a new board member.

Mrs. Hight again review in detail our trip to Owosso, to their library and their invitation to our library to join them in the formation of a regional library. Such a move will mean much work and whether or not we will make such a decision, it was decided that there wasn't anything to be lost and probably something to be gained, to try to find out (what) how other libraries in Livingston County feel about it. Accordingly, Mrs. Hight will try to call a meeting of other librarians before our February board meeting.

Mrs. Hight also spoke of her magazine subscriptions and how much could be saved by ordering for these years at a time, because of the money output, it was suggested she might group them and order a few in this way each year, until all are on a three year basis. She was going to look into this to see if as much could be saved.(in this way).

The library is still open on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon to (Friday) 5:00PM.

No electrical work has yet been done and Mr. Howard who has been given the job says the library must be closed for thee days to the work. Mrs. Hight will put the dates in the paper in order to notify the public. The floor problem where finish is worn off, again came up, but as tabled until the February meeting.

There was a short discussion on the budget to be completed in February.

The meeting adjourned, the next meeting to be February 16. Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman, record secty.
